From deployment to transitioning from military service and beyond, we’re here to provide the support you’ve earned. We want to ensure you’re aware of the laws that support you, including the federal Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA), which provides benefits and protections to eligible service members.

SCRA Benefits

SCRA benefits are designed to help ease financial obligations and, in some cases, provide additional safeguards. Protections for eligible accounts include:

  • Temporary interest rate protection. The SCRA limits interest rates on retail contracts to no more than 6% per year for customers who opened accounts prior to active duty. State exceptions may apply.
  • Lease termination. In many cases, the SCRA allows service members to terminate leases early, with no penalty. Receiving qualifying orders for a permanent change of station or deployment also qualifies.
  • Vehicle repossessions. The SCRA prohibits auto finance companies from repossessing a vehicle (without a court order) during the borrower's military service if the borrower financed or leased the vehicle prior to military service. State exceptions may apply.

SCRA Eligibility

We’re on your side, ready with the financial resources you’ll need while serving. The SCRA helps service members manage the financial transition to active duty through a range of protections. To qualify for SCRA protection, service members must be called to active state or federal military service from one of the following branches:

  • Air Force
  • Army
  • Coast Guard
  • Commissioned Officers of the National Oceanic and Atmosphere Administration
  • Commissioned Officers of the Public Health Service
  • Marine Corps
  • Members of a Reserved Component (when called to active duty)
  • National Guard (when called to active federal or state military service)
  • Navy
  • Space Force
  • United States citizens serving with forces of a nation with which the U.S. is allied

Depending on the state, the SCRA also provides some benefits and protections to spouses and dependents.

SCRA Ineligibility

For auto financing, not including lease customers, those not eligible include:

  • Individuals who became customers while on active duty in military service (state exceptions may apply).
  • Military veterans whose service completion date is beyond 180 days.

We review each active account to determine eligibility for federal SCRA protection. There may be different benefits available for different account types. Our Military Client Support team will help you identify the available benefits for each of your accounts.

If you've been discharged for longer than 180 days, no. The SCRA is only for active-duty military customers. If you’re a veteran and called to active duty, you may be eligible for SCRA protections.

We’re honored to serve veterans who served our country. The GM Military Appreciation offer is available to all military personnel, veterans and retirees. Eligible participants can sponsor their spouse.

Our dedicated Military Client Support team can be reached the following ways:

You can also message us in MyAccount 8 a.m.–5 p.m. CT, Monday-Friday, to get the answers you need.

After the appropriate documentation is received, one of our Military Client Support professionals will be in touch, typically within eight business days. After SCRA eligibility has been determined, they will discuss next steps. You will also receive an email and a letter sent to the address on file.

Frequently asked questions for individuals with SCRA protections

Yes, your monthly payment is still required when the rate is reduced to 6%. You will see the new payment amount reflected in your confirmation letter/email as well as in MyAccount.

No, SCRA allows eligible service members to cancel or terminate a lease without paying early termination charges or penalties. However, you may still be responsible for some lease-end amounts such as past-due payments (up to the date of termination), taxes, and excess mileage and wear fees related to your vehicle(s). Any lease amounts paid in advance will be refunded.

Once your lease is approved for SCRA early termination, we will outline your next steps. Your originating dealership is the best place to turn in your vehicle when terminating your lease. If you have relocated a significant distance, please reach out to your local participating Cadillac dealership to ensure they are available to accept the vehicle for return.

If you experience any issues, feel free to call us at 1-855-719-9693 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT, Monday through Friday.

For lease returns, obtain a Vehicle Check-In Receipt and Odometer Statement from the dealership. Keep the receipt showing your mileage, the dealership name and a representative for your records.

While it’s not an SCRA benefit, Cadillac Financial may provide authorization to transport your vehicle if your orders allow it. To get started, follow the steps of the Authorization to Travel for Military Purposes form.

Retail customers are not eligible for early termination under SCRA, but you can register your vehicle in the new state. See the Out of State Registration document, which includes a link to the Relocation Request.

Should your orders be extended, you’ll need to provide the updated information to Military Customer Support.

While your spouse can request benefits, they may need to be assigned power of attorney to get certain information and make decisions on your behalf. Contact your military legal service office or private attorney to learn your options. After you’ve determined power of attorney, you may send the appropriate paperwork to Military Client Support.
