GM Financial Enhances Benefits for Active-duty Military, Guardsmen and Reservists

America’s men and women in uniform perform invaluable duties, often overcoming immense challenges and making drastic personal and professional sacrifices to help preserve our freedoms.

As its military population continues to grow, GM Financial leaders recognized the company could do more to accommodate those team members who choose to serve our country. To begin the year, the company implemented several changes to its employee benefits.

Employees returning to work from military leave will now have more flexibility in scheduling, relieving some pressure that may have previously occurred when employees were expected to begin a shift too soon after traveling home.

Additionally, the company rolled out a suite of new transition assistance resources intended to address the challenges of reorienting to civilian life. The program includes dedicated resources for depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder, which even provide access to therapy and psychiatry services. Those resources are also available to spouses and children of military service members.

New channels for recognizing service members at work are now available as the company debuted a yearbook program that encourages team members to write a custom message to their returning peer or select a pre-written response. Military-focused e-cards were also added to the company’s existing recognition platform

These enhancements to the company’s benefits were championed by military team members alongside their friends and families, who helped ensure the changes are as meaningful and effective as possible. They significantly exceed benefit requirements set forth by state and federal law.

GM Financial recently earned national recognition for its commitment to military service members, receiving the prestigious Above and Beyond Award from the Defense Department’s Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) organization. Several company leaders also earned the ESGR’s Patriotic Employer Award in 2024.

The company’s Salute employee resource group was formalized in 2023, and continues to provide support and development opportunities for U.S. employees who are military veterans, active-duty service members and their allies.
